Focus On Waste
Dynamics of the Waste Stream
The organic portion of the waste stream contains garden waste and kitchen waste, representing approximately 47% of total waste generated (with geographic fluctuations).
The total amount of waste generated by the average Australian household is approximately 1000 Kg per year and it is estimated that almost 50 percent of the total waste stream could be composted.*
On average, residents who compost at home can divert up to 470 Kg per year from the solid waste stream.
Home composting benefits everyone: your community, the environment and you, the homeowner!
